Rolling tea plantations below Anamudi, South India’s highest peak.
The Coimbatore-to-Munnar route via Marayoor is one we get asked about constantly, and for good reason — it’s genuinely one of the most scenic drives we run, cutting through sandalwood forest before climbing into tea country proper.
Munnar itself is what most people picture when they imagine Kerala’s hill stations: tea bushes trimmed into rolling green waves, cool air, and Anamudi — South India’s highest peak — visible on a clear day.
September to May covers most comfortable weather; monsoon (June-August) makes the tea estates their most vividly green but brings heavy rain and occasional road restrictions on the ghat sections. December-January nights are genuinely cold — pack a proper jacket.
A short list of stops most of our Munnar packages build the day around — not an exhaustive list, but the ones worth planning your time for.
Home to the largest population of the endangered Nilgiri tahr, reached via a shuttle bus from the entry gate — go early, as afternoon slots fill up fast in season.
A reservoir with boating and views over the surrounding tea estates, a popular stop for families with children.
A viewpoint at around 1,700 metres on the Munnar-Kodaikanal old road, looking into the Kannan Devan Hills — best at sunrise before cloud builds up.
Run by a working estate, walking you through the full process from leaf to cup, with a tasting at the end.
Home to the Kurinji flower, which blooms in mass only once roughly every twelve years — it last flowered in 2018, so this is a longer-cycle event rather than an annual one.

For our Coimbatore-based packages, yes — it’s shorter and passes through sandalwood forest and Marayoor’s own sugarcane fields, which most visitors enjoy as part of the journey rather than just transit.
Two full days lets you cover Eravikulam, Mattupetty and a tea estate without rushing. Add a third if you want Top Station and a slower pace.
Yes, it’s one of our more popular multi-day Kerala requests — Munnar for tea-estate scenery, then on to Thekkady for the wildlife sanctuary.
