Yercaud is the outlier on this list geographically — it sits in the Shevaroy Hills near Salem rather than the Nilgiris or Western Ghats stretch most of our other Tamil Nadu packages cover, which makes the drive from Coimbatore longer than you’d expect for a hill station this size.
What you get for the extra distance is a noticeably smaller, quieter alternative to Ooty, with coffee estates instead of tea and a lake you can walk around in under an hour.
Yercaud is pleasant nearly year-round given its more moderate elevation compared to Ooty, but October to February is most comfortable. Summer (April-June) is warmer than the Nilgiris but still noticeably cooler than the plains around Salem.
